In Indiana, there's many great places to camp near Indiana Dunes State Park, Ouabache State Park, Shakamak State Park, Versailles State Park, Indianapolis Motor Speedway and many other areas of interest throughout the state. The Hoosier state, however, is not without action. Indiana is a powerhouse in the sports world. It is home to the Indy 500, one of the world's premier racing events, and to the Indianapolis Colts, one of the most competitive teams in the NFL. And, of course there is Indiana basketball, immortalized in the film 'Hoosiers', which approaches a religion. Many of the natural treasures of Indiana can be discovered while touring the caverns, traveling the covered bridges, or checking out the scenery of the Indiana Dunes. The Indianapolis 500 is in the spotlight each year for those having a need for speed. The name "Indiana" simply means "land of the Indians." |

There are state and national parks like Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, Chain O' Lakes State Park, Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, Charlestown State Park and George Rogers Clark National Historical Park in Indiana as well as local parks which may offer camping facilities. Campgrounds and RV parks can also be found in or nearby Gary, Lafayette, Elkhart, Fort Wayne, Evansville, Terre Haute, Columbus, Richmond, Auburn, Indianapolis and many other cities and towns throughout Indiana. Indiana, situated in the Midwest, is known as the 'Crossroads of America', with multiple highways intersecting within its borders. This makes it easy to travel through the state's scenic stretches of rural land. In the north, Indiana borders the tip of Lake Michigan, and the peaceful Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore encompasses sandy beaches and expanses of wildflowers. Visitors might then explore the lanes of the Amish country in the northeast, wander through the antique alleys of Wayne County, see the historic covered bridges of Parke County or drive the picturesque Ohio River byway in the south. Indiana, the RV manufacturing capital of America, gives campers many reasons to visit this great state. Take a tour of one of the most famous raceways in the world, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway or get up close and personal with your favorite NCAA star at the NCAA Hall of Champions. In education, too, Indiana is at the forefront. Top institutions like the University of Notre Dame, Purdue University and DePauw University, and of course their sports teams, are located here. More interstate highways connect in Indianapolis than in any other city. |
